Beach Exploration
Discover the life that lives at the edge of the sea...
Hunt for island treasures with one of our knowledgeable guides.
Beach Exploration hikes start at the park's Nature Center, located on the bay side of the park, close to the main highway.
Get a close-up look at the many critters and birds that inhabit the sand, surf and seaweed. This Saturday tour includes hands-on seining, searching for ghost crabs and beach combing under the guidance of Friends of Galveston Island State Park (FoGISP) volunteers.
Sand Castle Contest
Ranger Lisa will clear an area for our contest and bring some gear to create a sandy masterpiece. We want to see what kind of castle or sculpture you can make, so you're invited to spend some time gathering materials, building a structure, and decorating it to your liking!
Prizes awarded for participation. Only sand castles made during the program count. No prior experience or materials needed. Wear sunscreen, bring a hat, and come prepared to be in the sand for this special art contest!
Following the beach events your family is welcome to enjoy your day at the beach, your admission is good for 1 day.
