  GHFEDS has been awarded a limited number of self guided day tour passes to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. These passes only include admission into NRG Park, it does not include admission into rodeo or performance arena, carnival tickets, food or parking pass.

  Day passes are for individuals with Down syndrome and family members, max 4 passes per family.

  Gates open at 8 a.m. daily, but always refer to www.rodeohouston.com for the most up to date information.

  *Members can pick one date and up to 4 tickets per family. These tickets are for the individual with Down syndrome and their parents and youth siblings only. 

  Arrival time and instructions for the rodeo and performance will be posted soon and sent with your packet.

  *If you are attending the Lil Rustlers rodeo and performance please do not register for tickets so other families have a chance to attend.

  Packets with tickets and parking pass will be mailed to mailing address listed on your GHFEDS account. Please confirm your address when you log in to register.

  If you are unable to attend the event please notify us immediately so we can offer the tickets to those on the waitlist.

  GHFEDS has received 3 HLSR Lil Rustlers Rodeo tickets to give away to our members.

  You must have a current membership with GHFEDS to register for tickets.

  Lil Rustlers will be held on Wednesday March 12th starting promptly at 430pm.

  Each family will receive up to 4  tickets which includes child with Down syndrome and 3 family members only. In some cases there will be family's that do not need all 4 tickets and extra tickets will be given to family's that request extra tickets, but extra tickets are not guaranteed.

  If you have more than one child with Down syndrome you must register each child separately.
  

  You MUST participate in the Lil Rustlers Rodeo, the committee counts all tickets given out, if you are unable to attend the event you must notify GHFEDS immediately so we can find a family to take the tickets. 

  Please make sure the participants meet the following criteria:

  1.            Age: between 4 and 10 years of age.

  2.            Weight under 75 lbs.

  3.            Arrive at south end of the Main Arena in NRG Center no later than 4:30 p.m.

  4.            Participant should be able to handle the stimulation of being on the NRG Center Main Arena floor, with cedar chips, lights, cameras, clowns and announcers.

  Special Strong FunFit Class

  Dates: Saturday March 1st & 15th 
  Time: 2-3pm
  Location: Anytime Fitness - 4420 W Main St Ste B League City, TX 77573

  The FunFit class is for individuals with Ds ages 13 and up without physical limitations, and do not require assistance.

  *If your teen or adult with Down syndrome currently attends multiple classes at Special Strong please Do Not register for this class so others have a chance to attend these classes. 

  This class will be held twice a month on a Saturday, you must be able to attend both classes, dates of classes will vary on a monthly basis, registration will be posted monthly so you will need to register each month, there is a maximum of 16 students per class.

  *Wear comfortable clothes, sneakers, and bring a water bottle.

  The exercise classes will be a mix of 3 of our Special Strong FunFit Group Classes:

  BootCamp, Kickboxing, Movement & Mobility

  Every class will incorporate our CBSE Fitness Model:

  Core, Balance, Flexibility
  

  Brain & Sensory
  

  Endurance
  

  Strength

  Safety is always our 1st priority, but having FUN while being healthy is a close 2nd!

  Our coaches empower each individual to participate to the best of their ability.  Knowing when to push them, but also knowing when someone may need some additional help or encouragement.

  GHFEDS would like to invite your family in celebrating World Down Syndrome Day!

  We will be celebrating with a Silly Sock Dance on Saturday March 22nd from 6-8:30pm

   Wear your silly socks and dance the night away

   Entertainment includes DJ, dancing, crafts/games and a Silly Sock Parade

  Serving Chickfila nuggets/strips and grilled nuggets, sandwiches, chips, veggie/fruit tray, desserts, drinks and gluten free options available.

  In honor of WDSD, GHFEDS will donate $2000 for Down syndrome research to LuMind IDSC Foundation. The mission and vision of LuMind IDSC Foundation is we accelerate research to increase availability of therapeutic, diagnostic, and medical care options and we empower families through education, connections, and support. We envision a world where every person with Down syndrome thrives with improved health, independence, and opportunities to reach their fullest potential. LuMind IDSC serves as a bridge between the Down syndrome community and the research community.

  When you enter through the front door the meeting room will be on the left, there is a maximum of 59 attendee's, registration will close when limit is reached and waitlist will be enabled, this class is for the whole family.

  Families will learn about sustainable lifestyle changes to improve the overall health and well-being of individuals with Down syndrome and the entire family. 
  

  February’s nutrition class will cover the role of nutrition in our lives and why it is important. We will take a look at a balanced diet and the importance and role of macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and reading food labels.

  These classes are designed and led by doctor of physical therapy students and supported by Dr. Laurie Farroni, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy and Pediatric Clinical Specialist.

  Disability Rights Texas Attorney Shiloh Carter will be presenting topics on understanding Social Security disability programs, applicable work incentives and benefits for those who want to work as well as supported decision making/alternatives to guardianship.   GHFEDS will be offering 5 families a $100 reimbursement per family for attending the NDSC Convention which will be held on July 24-27th in Dallas.

  You must have a current Annual Membership to register for the reimbursement.
