Lets get moving!
Come join UTMB Physical Therapist Students and PT Faculty for an hour of games, dancing, and much more aimed at getting your child to have fun with exercise. We plan to show participants exciting and easy ways to get active. Equipment and water will be provided so all we need is your child ready to have fun! Please consult with your physician to make sure your child is healthy enough for physical activity. Hope to see y'all there for a great time of activity and socializing!
Registration is for all dates and free for all family members.
GHFEDS would like to invite babies and toddlers with Down syndrome ages 0-6 for our Tiny Tots Social at Houston Party Playland on Saturday March 24th from 10am-12pm.
We encourage parents with babies to attend, it will give you a chance to get to know other new parents, socialize, exchange info about babies with Down syndrome, and discuss future socials and meetings.
Siblings are welcomed and pizza and drinks will be provided to all.
Houston Party Playland is an indoor playground facility offering a baby zone, tyke spot, tot town, and school age playland.

GHFEDS would like to invite your family in celebrating World Down Syndrome Day!
We will be celebrating with a Silly Sock Dance on Saturday March 24th from 6-8pm at Verne Cox Multipurpose Recreation Center in Pasadena.
Wear your silly socks and dance the night away, we will be crowning a WDSD King and Queen who has the silliest socks so be creative! Entertainment includes DJ, dancing, basketball, games, clown, balloon art and face painting.
We will be serving Chickfila sandwiches, chicken nuggets and strips, gluten free grilled chicken, veggie and fruit trays, snacks and drinks.
In honor of WDSD GHFEDS donates $5000 annually for Down syndrome research to LuMind Foundation. The mission of LuMind Research Down Syndrome Foundation is to stimulate biomedical research that will accelerate the development of treatments to significantly improve cognition, including memory, learning and speech, for individuals with Down syndrome so they:
• participate more successfully in school
• lead more active and independent lives, and
• avoid the early onset of Alzheimer’s Disease.

GHFEDS would like to invite you to our Parent Educational Meeting about Behavior Therapy for Children with Down syndrome presented by Kari Rote of New Heights Pediatric Therapies.

Childcare will be provided, we will be serving sandwiches, chips, veggies and fruit for parents and chicken nuggets, chips, veggies and fruit for kids.
Attendees will understand causes of challenging behavior, assessment, and basic interventions utilized to intervene with behavior. We will also discuss motivational issues vs. skill deficits and how applied behavior analysis can be utilized to break down complex skills for teaching to mastery. A question and answer session will follow in regards to family behavioral challenges, teaching difficulties, or general ABA questions.
Kari Rote is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst or BCBA with 10 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and Autism. She graduated from the University of Houston- Clear Lake in May of 2012 with a Master of Arts degree in Behavior Analysis and was certified as a BCBA in the Fall of 2012.She has provided consumer focused services in a local school district, in state facilities, in private homes, and in privately owned Home and Community-based Services or HCS group homes and day habs, and at larger residential facilities.
Kari sees in-clinic ABA clients at New Heights Pediatric Therapies as well as maintains her own caseload of in-home clients and contracts with school districts for Independent Educational Evaluations.

What: Aesop's Fable - The Dinosaur and The Ant
Since ancient prehistoric times man has loved to tell stories. Often told, sometimes sung, here with giant glow-in-the-dark puppets, Aesop’s Fable “The Ant and the Grasshopper” is presented in Bits ‘N Pieces’ Caribbean Musical retelling of a Dinosaur having too much fun. Aesop shares three of his favorite fables with Giant puppets, Shadows, and Projections.
**This adult social is for one adult with Down syndrome age 18 and up and one parent.
We have a limited number of tickets for this event. Once spots are filled registration will close.
After the performance we will meet at McDonalds (Aprox, 7-10 min drive from Opera House) will give directions before the show.
GHFEDS would like to invite your family for our Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday April 7th from 2-4pm at Frankie Carter Randolph Park Pavilion #2 in Friendswood.
The kids will enjoy hunting for eggs, taking pictures with the Easter Bunny, clown, balloon art and face painting. Snacks and drinks will be provided. All kids will be provided a Easter egg basket for hunting eggs or you can bring your own, and kids with Down syndrome will be receiving a Special Egg.
Registration will close April 2nd to prepare for the event!

The Adult Social is for adults with Down syndrome ages 18 and up, parents may drop off or stay, no siblings please.

GHFEDS would like to invite Teens with Down syndrome ages 13-20 and their family for Karaoke Night at Main Event in Webster on Friday April 20th from 6-8pm.
The kids will enjoy 2 hours of karaoke, pizza and drinks will be served to all, siblings welcomed and will be charged $5 per sibling.
Come out and join us for some fun dancing exercise with drum sticks. Siblings are welcomed and parents can join in on the fun.

GHFEDS would like to invite your family for a GHFEDS Family Retreat at Camp Blessing!

Your family will enjoy a weekend filled with swimming in a heated pool, outdoor and indoor games, sports activities, rock wall, zip line, giant swing, canoeing, catch and release fishing.
Camp Blessing has private cabin rooms (sleeps 2-6 people, twin/double/queen, if you're a family of 7 or more you will have 2 cabin rooms), bunk beds will only be used if we have over 90 people attending, private and shared bathrooms, wheel chair friendly facility with roll in showers, meals will be provided, buddies will be onsite for the children with Down syndrome but it will not be 1:1 like what is offered during summer camps. All activities are family oriented but there will be a presentation by Camp Blessing staff for parents only, camp buddies will be entertaining the siblings and kids with Down syndrome during the presentation.

Cost for family retreat is $160 per person.
GHFEDS will be paying in full for the children with Down syndrome and half ($80) for one parent only, this offer is for 35 GHFEDS families.

Location: The Gilruth Center at Nasa
The workshop relates to adults with Down syndrome transitioning into adulthood, speaker topics include college programs, employment, state programs, day programs, housing, healthcare, sexuality, and fitness.
