About

This is Part One of a three part Leadership Training for youth with disabilities ages 14 to 26. Commitment
for all three parts is not required to participate in Part One. The focus of Part One is Effective Communication
Skills for Self-Advocacy. Through interactive, hands-on, fun activities, we will explore the skills needed
for youth to Stand-up, Speak-up, and Step-out.
Every Superhero needs a Sidekick! A sidekick is a caring family member or friend who will come alongside
the youth participant to provide support and encouragement as they learn and practice appropriate selfadvocacy
skills. It is preferred that the sidekick be someone other than a parent. A family friend, sibling,
teacher or coach would be an ideal partner. The sidekick will receive a brief orientation of the program
and they are invited to attend the training with their Superhero youth.
For more information about this program, contact Brenda Nelson, 979-616-0393, bnelsonprnteam@sbcglobal.net.
